This workshop invites participants of all dance backgrounds and experience levels to explore the body as a vessel of ritual, identity and cultural knowledge.
Engaging with West African dance traditions, the workshop explores how ancient knowledge systems are embodied and expressed through movement. Participants will explore movement as a living cultural knowledge system through which we experience interconnected ways of being in the world.
Facilitated by Lamine Sonko alongside dancers and musicians from the National Theatre of Senegal, the workshop offers a rare opportunity to experience cultural practices from Senegal’s leading performing artists. The program includes a 45-minute talk exploring cultural knowledge systems followed by a 60-minute movement class accompanied by live percussion.
